Listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 lbs., Van Poppel has been ranked at multiple positions, both as a defensive lineman and as an interior offensive lineman, but the plan at Nebraska appears to be to employ Van Poppel along the defensive front. His primary recruiter was DC Erik Chinander with OLB and DL coach Mike Dawson serving as a secondary recruiter.
The 247 Sports Composite Rankings have Van Poppel as a 4-star prospect for the class of 2023. He also checks in as the No. 60 player out of Texas for the cycle.
Van Poppel becomes the highest-rated commit of Nebraska’s 8 total commitments in the class of 2023. That group is currently ranked No. 24 nationally by the team rankings.
