3-star tight end Deakon Tonielli commits to Michigan over Illinois, Purdue

Michigan added 3-star tight end Deakon Tonielli Sunday, beating out fellow B1G competition for its 7th commitment of the 2023 class.
Tonielli announced his decision on Twitter, thanking tight ends coach Grant Newsome and head coach Jim Harbaugh. The 6-foot-6 tight end is fresh off an official visit to Ann Arbor, and picked the Wolverines over Illinois, Purdue and Cincinnati.

Tonielli is regarded as the No. 22 tight end in the nation per 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s also considered to be the No. 7 player out of the state of Illinois.
Tonielli represents Michigan’s 3rd highest recruit of the 2023 class so far.
