Nebraska has apparently added a first-time football to its 2024 schedule.

According to FBSchedules.com, the Cornhuskers will play host to FCS program Northern Iowa on Sept. 14, 2024. The report is based on a scheduling contract the website acquired by filing an open-records request with UNI.

A perennial FCS playoff participant, the Panthers were 6-6 in 2022, 4-4 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. They fell to No. 4 Eastern Washington 19-9 in the 1st round of the playoffs, 2 years after advancing to the quarterfinals.

Northern Iowa is known for upsetting in-state FBS foe Iowa State 25-20 in 2016. It nearly repeated the feat 3 years ago as it took the Cyclones to 3 overtimes before losing 29-26. On Sept. 4, the Wildcats played the Cyclones close once more, ultimately losing 16-6 in Ames.

The Wildcats join a Huskers non-conference schedule that already features UTEP, currently in Conference USA, and the Pac-12’s Colorado. The game against the Miners will be a first-time opponent, while the contest against the Buffaloes will be the 73rd time the 2 programs have met.
