One could say it was meant to be that Jaden Ivey would play professionally in Detroit. Ivey was reminded of his family’s Motor City legacy when the Pistons welcomed their new rookie.

The Pistons welcomed Ivey after drafting him No. 5 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft Thursday evening. Jaden is the latest family member to play in Detroit. His grandfather played for the Detroit Lions, his father for Detroit Country Day and his mother for the Detroit Shock. The Pistons presented Ivey with all their jerseys before he received his own.

A South Bend native, Ivey chose Purdue over Indiana, Notre Dame, Butler and Ohio State. After 2 standout seasons with the Boilermakers, he seems to have landed in the perfect spot.
