Rutgers football and basketball may be seeing some major facilities upgrades over the next few years.
According to an article by Abbott Koloff and Jean Rimbach of Northjersey.com, Rutgers received a $100 million budget increase in taxpayer money specified to be used towards renovations to Rutgers athletics facilities.
The funds for the previously unkept athletics division are part of a $300 million aid package for capital projects that also includes $150 million for the university’s medical schools.
It seems head coach Greg Schiano has gotten his wish. The third-year head coach is attempting to resuscitate a seemingly dying program, and this move will certainly be a step in the right direction.
It doesn’t help that Rutgers has accumulated over $250 million in debt, leading into $73 million in each of the last two fiscal years.
