Mel Tucker is putting together a strong 2023 recruiting class at Michigan State. The Spartans are also still in the running for another elite prospect for the cycle.
The player is David Hicks, a 5-star defensive lineman out of Paetow High School in Katy, Texas. He dropped his top-7 list on Friday with Michigan State included alongside a host of Power 5 programs that included Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, Texas A&M, Miami (FL) and Oregon.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 270 lbs., the 247 Sports Composite Rankings rate Hicks as a 5-star recruit and the top player out of Texas for the class of 2023. He’s also the top DL nationally and No. 5 overall player nationally regardless of position.
Michigan State is up to 10 commitments for the cycle with 7 prospects receiving 4-star ratings. The Spartans do not hold a commitment from a 5-star prospect.
