Kevin Huerter has had a solid start to his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks. But on Friday, Huerter experienced for the first time what it is like to be traded.

A first-round pick of the Hawks during the 2018 NBA Draft, Huerter had turned into a consistent contributor for the team with 274 appearances and 216 starts over his first 4 seasons. He also turned in some dramatic NBA Playoff outings, scoring 27 points in a Game 7 win over Philadelphia during 2021 playoffs.

In the 2022 offseason, the Hawks have begun revamping their roster by acquiring all-star guard Dejounte Murray from the San Antonio Spurs. Then, reports surfaced that Atlanta had dealt Huerter in a 3-player swap with the Sacramento Kings.

After that news surfaced, Huerter responded to the surprising trade via social media:

While Huerter will hopefully continue to be impactful with the Kings, leaving his first NBA home – and one where he was well-liked by fans – has to sting. Huerter leaves Atlanta with averages of 11.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 38% from 3-point range.
