Not a single team went undefeated in college football last season.
And according to 247 Sports, there isn’t a very likely candidate for that to change in 2022-23. However, 2 B1G schools, Ohio State and Michigan, each have more of a chance than most other teams in the country.
247 Sports used ESPN’s FPI metric to determine whether or not a specific team would finish the year undefeated, and only 10 programs eclipsed a 1% chance. These programs are listed below in ascending order:
- Notre Dame: 1.25%
- UCF: 1.6%
- Michigan: 1.6%
- Utah: 1.8%
- Cincinnati: 2.2%
- Boise State: 2.4%
- Clemson: 13.8%
- Alabama: 16.6%
- Georgia: 27/9%
- Ohio State: 32.1%
Obviously, only one of Ohio State and Michigan have the ability to go undefeated this season, with Michigan having to knock off Ohio State for the second year in a row, a feat the Wolverines haven’t accomplished since the 2000 season.
Ohio State has not finished a season undefeated since 2012. The Wolverines have not done so since 1997.
