Iowa picked up a solid win on the recruiting trail Tuesday morning with a pledge from a defensive back out of Chicago. The Hawkeyes edged out B1G West rival Wisconsin in the process.

The player is Kahlil Tate, a 6-foot-2 defensive back out of Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago, Illinois. Tate had racked up 21 offers, including 8 offers from the B1G, before announcing his commitment live via the 247 Sports YouTube page.

According to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Tate is a 3-star prospect and the No. 10 overall player out of Illinois for the 2023 recruiting class. Tate is also the No. 57 ATH in the country.

With Tate’s commitment, Iowa’s recruiting class is now up to 17 pledges as we hit the middle of July. That group was ranked No. 20 nationally by the team recruiting rankings prior to Tate’s inclusion.
