Jason McCourty had a long and healthy career both at Rutgers and in the NFL. On Friday, that career came to an end.

McCourty announced via an emotional Instagram video that he “is officially retiring from the NFL.” The defensive back was originally a 6th-round draft pick in 2009 after 4 seasons playing for the Scarlet Knights.

“These past 13 seasons have been one hell of a journey,” said McCourty. “I have far surpassed any and every expectation I set for myself back in 2009.”

McCourty – along with his twin brother, Devin – has posted an impressive career. Across 13 seasons, McCourty appeared in 173 games with stops at the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins. He finishes his NFL career with 18 interceptions, 108 passes defended and 744 tackles.

The McCourty twins also spent a memorable three-year stretch from 2018-20 as teammates on the Patriots. That stint included a Super Bowl title in 2018.
