Rakim Jarrett discusses Maryland’s ‘pick-your-poison’ WR room during B1G Media Days

Rakim Jarrett has been one of the standouts on the Maryland offense since his arrival. As a sophomore, the former 4-star recruit from the Washington, D.C. area was the team’s leading receiver and ranked top 10 in the B1G in receiving yards and touchdowns. He’ll enter the 2022 campaign as an NFL Draft prospect and a Biletnikoff Award watchlist member.
But the Terrapins’ wide receiver room is much deeper than Jarrett. Defenders will be tasked with stopping players like Dontay Demus Jr., who opted to return for a 5th and final season in College Park after his 2021 campaign was cut short by injury. That’s despite losing wideouts such as Brian Cobbs (Utah State) and Carlos Carriere (Central Michigan) to the transfer portal.
Still, there will be plenty of targets for Taulia Tagovailoa to choose from.
“It’s almost a pick-your-poison type of group,” Jarrett told the Big Ten Network on Tuesday during B1G Media Days. “I mean, you can pick one to stop, but the other 3 are going to be there. I think it’s going to be very hard for the defenses to hone in on one person, even though they’ve seen what they’ve seen on film. So I think it will be fun, and we’ve got the right guy throwing the ball to us.”
