Iowa LB Jack Campbell reflects on on-field, off-field development as he enters senior season

Jack Campbell enters his 4th season with Iowa in 2022, and the senior linebacker will be a centerpiece of a defense that hopes to lead the Hawkeyes to their first B1G title since 2004.

Campbell finished 2021 with one of the highest single-season tackle totals in Iowa history, with his 143 stops standing as 5th all-time. He also recorded 14 tackles in the Citrus Bowl against Kentucky, a top-5 total in the game’s long history.

While he didn’t make the B1G’s all-conference list, Campbell has received plenty of notice from various media sources: Phil Steele named him an All-American pick, while Steele and Athlon Sports placed him among their 1st-team all-B1G selections.

Looking back on his development while with the Hawkeyes, Campbell brought up Seth Wallace, Iowa’s linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator.

“He’s pushed me to be a better person, most importantly, but also the fundamental football basis he’s brought me has allowed me to go,” he said during B1G Media Days on Tuesday.

While Campbell discussed his personal aspirations to improve at his craft, he cited the groundwork laid by not just Wallace, but defensive coordinator Phil Parker and defensive line coach Kelvin Bell.

“When you go to Iowa, you’re going to get developed, you’re going to get coached the right way, and you’re going to do things the right way,” he added.”
