Former Detroit Lion, Buckeye, William White passes away at 56

The Detroit Lions organization lost a former Ohio State player on Friday. William White passed away after a long battle with ALS.

White played for the Lions from 1988-1993. He was drafted out of Columbus in the 4th round of the 1988 NFL Draft. White played in 95 games with 79 starts for the Lions during his tenure there. He also had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs (1994-1996) and Atlanta Falcons (1997-1998).

White played DB, and logged 20 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 3.5 sacks in his NFL career. His contributions to the Detroit and Ohio State communities will be missed by everyone who watched him play.

Here’s what Lions Special Assistant to President/CEO and Chairperson Chris Spielman had to say about his passing:

“I love William,” said Spielman. “We shared experiences of joy and sorrow on and off the field. He was always will be my brother. I am forever grateful for the special moment last year when he was able to be by my side during the Pride of the Lions ceremony at Ford Field. I can’t wait to see him again when he will be free from ALS. May God’s peace rest upon his family.”
