Illinois opens fall camp Saturday just ahead of the start of August. A member of the Illini QB room is also opting for the transfer portal.
According to Matt Zenitz with On3, Samari Collier has decided to enter the transfer portal. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 220 lbs., Collier was a 3-star prospect out of Texas in the 2021 recruiting class.
Collier threw for 64 yards during the spring game.

Collier’s path to playing time in 2022 was difficult at Illinois. Syracuse transfer QB Tommy DeVito stands as the favorite to land the starting job in Champaign. Art Sitkowski also returns to the fold and is likely the backup behind DeVito.
If Collier does move on through the transfer portal, he would need to file a waiver in order to be immediately eligible for the 2022 season. However, it would likely be a tough task to transfer and get acclimated with a new team prior to the start of the season.
