Tom Allen previews Indiana’s QB battle for 2022 entering fall camp

Tom Allen gave insight on Indiana’s quarterback competition heading into the fall camp.
For the start of the 2022 season, it remains unclear who will be the starting quarterback for Indiana. The season begins at home against Illinois on Sept. 2.
The battle for the starting job will be between Connor Bazelak and Jack Tuttle. Bazelak, the former Missouri quarterback, entered the transfer portal after the 2021 season and joined Indiana in January. He started for Missouri in 2020 and 2021. In 2021, Bazelak passed for 2,548 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 11 games.
Bazelak will be in competition with Tuttle, who played a meaningful number of games in 2021. Tuttle played in 6 games for the Hoosiers in 2021 and had 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Despite a challenging season, Tuttle used the offseason to improve and compete for the starting position in 2022.
Allen gave an update on the competition with just over 1 month before the start of the season (Via The College Football Daily):
“Connor came in here after being a 2-year starter at Missouri. Threw for a whole bunch of yards in the SEC and did some great things there…Has a calmness to him,” Allen said. “But he’s gotta perform. Has to earn the job. Right now, he and Jack Tuttle are battling neck and neck. Came out of spring ball and thought Connor did some really really good things learning a new team and learning a new system…but it’s a very heated competition.”
Indiana finished the 2021 season with a 2-10 record and were winless in B1G play. If the Hoosiers can find consistency at quarterback, 2022 could be a much improved season.
