Lee Corso turns 87: CFB fans, media send birthday wishes to the ESPN personality

Lee Corso is celebrating his 87th birthday on Sunday.
The longtime ESPN personality has been an analyst for “College GameDay” since its introduction in 1987, and as the program begins its 36th season in a few weeks, Corso will be behind the desk alongside Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and David Pollack.
Before his time with College GameDay, Corso was a longtime college football coach, starting with a graduate assistant role with his alma mater, Florida State, in 1958 before serving as a full-time assistant at Maryland (1959-1965) and Navy (1966-1968). In 1969, he received his first head coaching gig at Louisville and remained there for 4 successful seasons before being hired for the vacant role at Indiana ahead of the 1973 season. After his firing in 1982, he eventually ended up at Northern Illinois (1984) before taking the reins of the USFL’s Orlando Renegades (1985).
That said, Corso’s best-known role is on television, his endearing — and often unpredictable — personality part of the reason that makes GameDay appointment viewing. Let’s not forget the headgear picks, too.
Indiana football posted a “happy birthday” message to their former head man, along with many others across the college football landscape, as you can see below:
