There could be some changes coming for the B1G operates in the future. Ohio State AD Gene Smith stated that the conference is looking at eliminating divisions and changing the way its conference game scheduling works.
Smith stated that not only is he in favor of getting rid of divisions, but that he isn’t the only 1 who is interested in it according to Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch. The Big 12 is one of the few conferences that has no divisions, but still has a conference championship game.
Smith said he’s in favor of eliminating divisions for Big Ten football. Said it’s being discussed.

Another thing that Smith is in favor of is changing the way the B1G schedules its conference matchups. The current way it is done is a few years in advance, which Smith is looking at changing for the near future according to Kevin Noon of Buckeye Huddle. He also stated that it could be as tight as October of the previous year.
Sounds like B1G will not have conference football schedules announced years in advance. Could be as tight as October of previous year. Per Gene Smith. #Buckeyes
