Intra-conference transfers are rare in college football. Intra-division transfers are even more rare.

But that will be the case for ex-Penn State punter Jake Metzer, who announced that he accepted a walk-on offer at Ohio State.

Metzer was rated the No. 2 college transfer punter in the country. The 6-3, 225-pound sophomore will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Though Metzer enrolled at Penn State in 2015, he was never officially put on the active roster. Blake Gillikin became a true freshman All-American in 2016 after finishing third in the B1G in yards per punt (42.8).

At OSU, Metzer will have a chance to win the starting job after the graduation of four-year starter Cameron Johnston. Metzer and former No. 1 2016 punter Drue Chrisman will both compete to become Johnston’s successor.
