Illinois head coach Lovie Smith has suspended Darta Lee, Zarrian Holcombe and Howard Watkins following their arrests for involvement in a home invasion and armed robbery on Wednesday.

Smith, who is entering his second season as the head coach in Champaign, released a statement Wednesday afternoon. Sophomores Lee and Holcombe had already been suspended from team activities and Watkins – an early-enrollee and true freshman – has been suspended indefinitely.

Earlier today, it was reported that the three members of the Illinois football team had been charged with home invasion and armed robbery and all three were arrested on Wednesday morning. Little information regarding the situation has surfaced at this point.

An Illinois spoke says the university was “still gathering information and allowing the process to play out.”

Aside from Smith, nobody from the University of Illinois has spoken on the situation.
