No Ohio State newcomer is considered a part of the Buckeyes brotherhood until they shed the black tape which is affixed over the scarlet stripe on their helmet. To earn the black stripe removal you must show that you work hard enough and show respect towards the values of the Ohio State culture.
And two Buckeyes shed their black stripes Saturday evening: redshirt freshman and walk-on receiver Joop Mitchell and freshman running back Dallan Hayden.

Hayden has a legitimate chance to see the field in 2022 as a freshman, even behind TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams on the depth chart. He was the No. 19 running back in the 2022 cycle and the No. 7 overall prospect from the state of Tennessee when he signed with the Buckeyes in December.
Kyion Graves also shed his black stripe Saturday.
