Ryan Day will not only be facing Notre Dame in the season opener but will also be going against a former Ohio State player who’s now on the Fighting Irish staff.
However, Day assured everyone that he has a lot of respect for him even though he tried to create a role for him on the Ohio State sideline.
James Laurinaitis, who played at Ohio State from 2005-2008, is now a defensive graduate assistant on Marcus Freeman’s staff. Day has “great respect for him” per Griffin Strom of Eleven Warriors.
Day says OSU talked to James Laurinaitis about having a role on the Buckeye staff prior to him joining the Notre Dame program. “Great respect for him.”

Since he is now at Notre Dame, there’s no telling if he would have had a similar role with the Buckeyes or something different. It’ll be interesting to see if Laurinaitis backs up Day’s claims about a potential role with just a couple of weeks left until the meeting between these 2 powerhouses.
It looks like there are no hurt feelings on the Columbus side.
