Desmond Howard knows something about winning a Heisman Trophy, and he broke down a field of favorites for the award entering in 2022.

In a segment for ESPN College Football, the former Wolverine star and mainstay on College GameDay tackled a set of odds that give Ohio State’s CJ Stroud the best chance of winning the award at the end of the season.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young – winner of the 2021 award – had the second-best odds.

While it is unheard of for a player to win multiple Heisman awards, Howard admitted he doesn’t get Stroud as the frontrunner over Young entering the season:

“First I would like to say that I don’t think anybody should be the frontrunner except Bryce Young,” claimed Howard.

“I don’t think anyone – even CJ Stroud – should be neck-and-neck right now. Just at the beginning, with no games played, for (Stroud) to be the favorite, I just don’t get it. Bryce Young should be the frontrunner and everyone else (behind).”

Last season, Stroud finished 4th in Heisman voting despite an incredible individual season. One aspect that likely played a role in Stroud finishing outside of the top 3 could be losses to Oregon and Michigan last season.

It will be interesting to see where Stroud finishes for the Heisman if Ohio State is able to win the B1G and land in the College Football Playoff.
