It seems obvious, but we now officially know who will start for Penn State at quarterback in its Week 1 clash with Purdue.
Sean Clifford will be handed the reins of the offense, beating out 5-star freshman Drew Allar. Redshirt freshman Christian Veilleux will handle third string duties. Franklin was still adamant that things can change very easily.
Franklin pointed out Veilleux (pronounced Vay-AIR) began the season as the No. 3 quarterback but finished as the No. 2. Things are always changing.

Clifford being the Week 1 started should be far from a surprise. The talented 6th-year quarterback threw for over 3,000 yards, 21 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 2021. He’s looking to up those numbers in his final season with the Nittany Lions.
As for Allar, the 6-5, 242-pound prospect’s moment will present itself soon enough.
