Paul Finebaum, as well as just about everyone in the country who follows college football, know feel Scott Frost’s time in Lincoln, Nebraska is almost up.

He compared Nebraska’s current situation to that of Clay Helton’s tenure at USC.

“They’re in dire straights, because every one is just assuming he’s going to get fired,” Finebaum said, via On3 Sports. “It reminds me a little bit of where Southern California was last year. They lost early, they fired [Clay] Helton and they spent the fall looking for a new coach, and arguably ended up getting the best hire of the off-season. You can debate that with LSU and Brian Kelly, but they’re on the same level. I think that’s where (AD) Trev Alberts needs to be today. He did the old college try routine by retaining him, but that program’s too good to be run by some one who for whatever reason, always makes the wrong decision at the wrong time.”

Nebraska may fire Frost soon, but the program would be wise to wait until Oct. 1, when Frost’s buyout cuts from $15M to $7.5M. If Frost wants one last, last chance, he better start performing before October.

If you’re a Nebraska fan, it’s hard to be optimistic.
