ESPN’s FPI is in the process of predicting the games of the 2022 college football season.
Coming out of 2021, Minnesota will try and replicate the success of a 9-win season and reclaiming the Axe from archrival Wisconsin. Minnesota also gets some key pieces back for 2022.
That group includes Mohamed Ibrahim who is coming back from a season-ending injury last season. Quarterback Tanner Morgan is also back as Kirk Ciarrocca returns as OC under PJ Fleck.
Heading into the season opener, the Football Power Index has given the Gophers overwhelming odds to come away with a season-opening win. According to the FPI, Minnesota is given a 98.4% of winning against New Mexico State.
The odds for Week 1 are not very surprising, and Minnesota has a very favorable schedule out of the gate. The Gophers open the season with New Mexico State and Western Illinois before a Week 3 visit from Colorado.
Minnesota is likely to be favored in each game – especially at home – before a Sept. 24 road trip to Michigan State. We’ll see if Fleck’s squad can get off to a strong roll in 2022.
