Joey Galloway made a Tuesday morning appearance on ESPN’s Get Up to discuss the marquee matchups across college football’s Week 1 action. That included tackling Notre Dame’s trip to Columbus to face Ohio State.

Galloway started off by admitting he likes what Marcus Freeman brings to the table, but he was also amused by Freeman’s claim that the head coach did not know the spread during his Monday press conference:

“First off it always makes me laugh cause these coaches always make it sound like they don’t listn to the media… But they never miss when someone says something about them or their team,” said Galloway. “I was never one of the guys that needed these kinds of motivational things.”

As for the game itself, Galloway does believe the Irish can keep things close, pointing to Ohio State’s early-season struggles of 2021. That stretch included a closer than expected win over Minnesota and a home loss to Oregon:

“They can (keep it close),” said Galloway. “I love Marcus Freeman, I love what he’s done…but keeping this game close is more about Ohio State. They tend to keep guys closer than people want to see. I wouldn’t go against Notre Dame and the 17 points, to be honest with you, because Ohio State doesn’t tend to blow out teams early in the season.

“Notre Dame can keep this game close, but you’re going to have to score a lot of points. The question is can Notre Dame go with them, sort of like Utah did in the Rose Bowl last season.”

We’ll see how it plays out on Saturday in the Horseshoe.
