ESPN’s FPI predictions have been released for the 2022 season. It has already predicted how the season opener will go for Michigan State.
Michigan State is coming off of a solid 2021 campaign. Mel Tucker finished with an 11-2 record, and was 1 or 2 games away from competing for a B1G title. While the Spartans lost some big names to the NFL draft, ESPN’s Football Power Index gives them a 94.1% chance of victory.
The last time that Michigan State played Western Michigan was back in 2019. The Spartans won comfortably at home, 51-17. They will most likely be favored in their 1st few games up until their Oct. 8 showdown with Ohio State.
Payton Thorne quietly had 1 of the best seasons for a QB in Michigan State history in 2021, and will be looking to build on that this season.
Following the Broncos, Michigan State plays Akron, Washington, Minnesota, and Maryland in that order before taking on the Buckeyes at home. We’ll see how the 2022 season pans out for Tucker.
