Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner addressed being the heavy underdog heading into the Week 1 matchup against Ohio State.

Notre Dame will have a chip on its shoulder for the game because of the odds and Buchner embraced that role. Not too many people are picking Notre Dame to win the game and Buchner understood that.

It will be a game for Notre Dame to prove why they are a Playoff contender. The odds said one thing and Notre Dame wants to prove the odds wrong (Via On3):

“You know, I think it’s a lot of points,” Tyler Buchner said. “You know, I don’t know.”

It was clear that Buchner did not agree with the spread and wanted to prove that Notre Dame can come into Columbus and pull off the upset. The odds did not sit well with Notre Dame:

“I think I sort of see his [Marcus Freeman] motivation. A lot of guys on the team sort of see it as like a little bit of disrespect, almost,” Buchner said. “And, you know, I don’t really pay much attention to that stuff, but when he brought it up in the team meeting it sort of came to my mind and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. That’s a lot of points.’ I don’t really, I mean personally, I don’t think it should be that many points.”

This will be a huge game for Buchner to prove that he can lead Notre Dame to another College Football Playoff. The game will take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
