Desmond Howard previews Jim Harbaugh’s ‘unique resolution’ to QB battle at Michigan

Is two better than one? That appears to be the case with Michigan’s quarterback situation. Cade McNamara will get the start first against Colorado State followed by J.J. McCarthy the following week against Hawaii.
Michigan legend Desmond Howard offered his own thoughts on the matter and how Jim Harbaugh is approaching the situation (Via 247 Sports).
“Unique circumstances call for unique resolutions and I think this is the best way they’ve come up with as a staff to try to resolve this quarterback battle they have, a legitimate battle,” Howard said this week on CBS Sports HQ. “Cade McNamara played in 14 games last year and took Michigan to the College Football Playoff and J.J. McCarthy participated in 11 games and we’re not talking mop-up duty. He played in games when games were still hanging in the balance. He came into games, it’s like, ‘OK, this game could go either way.’ It speaks to his talent level and even more importantly, the amount of confidence the coaching staff had in him a year ago and continue to have him based on what they’ve seen.”
Again, who plays quarterback at Michigan early in the season might be inconsequential. The Wolverines should have the talent advantage at all positions over the first couple of weeks.
It could become more of an issue when Michigan opens up B1G play. The Wolverines play Maryland at home on Sept. 24. and Iowa on the road on Oct. 1.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh has said a decision on his starting quarterback moving forward would be made after the Hawaii game.
