Minnesota football is looking forward to their opening game Thursday night under the lights.

A new season is starting for the Golden Gophers and they are ready to take on the pressure of it all.

In the hype video posted on the Gopher Football social accounts, the narrator exclaims they are “ready to take it on and defend (their) home turf.”

To start out the season with non-conference play against New Mexico State will be an interesting test. New Mexico’s head coach Jerry Kill was Minnesota’s coach for four seasons (2011-2015), which brings familiarity for the former coach.

Minnesota will be returning a lot of standout players to the squad including quarterback Tanner Morgan and running back Mohamed Ibrahim. Ibrahim has rushed for 3,003 yards and 33 touchdowns during his career, while Morgan has thrown for 8,072 yards and 56 touchdowns. Minnesota holds a strong defense in the back with six returning starters that allowed only 17.3 points per game last season.

Kickoff is slated for Thursday at 9:00 pm EST at Huntingdon Bank Stadium as the Golden Gophers take on New Mexico State.
