Penn State is in West Lafayette to open the 2022 season against Purdue, and the Nittany Lions are carrying a number of young faces to that game.

When the travel roster was released Thursday, 13 players from the 2022 recruiting class were included for Penn State. That means over half of Penn State’s true freshman class (25 players were in the class of 2022) made the trip for the opener.

Some of those pieces were already known. 5-star quarterback Drew Allar is the backup to Sean Clifford in Week 1 and was included on the trip.

Running backs  Nick Singleton (5-star) and Kaytron Allen (4-star) are also expected to play at some point in the opener. Kaden Saunders – a 4-star WR – was mentioned by Taylor Stubblefield as a potential piece for the receiver rotation.

Here is the full travel roster:

The Nittany Lions will rely on a key group of veterans for much of 2022, but these talented freshmen will also need to step up and fill some gaps if the team is to rebound this season. We’ll see who gets action right out of the gate in just a little while.
