P.J. Fleck met former Minnesota HC Jerry Kill on the football field as his team took on New Mexico State. Fleck made sure to seek out Kill before the game and tell him just how important his time with him was at Northern Illinois.

Fleck was an assistant on Kill’s stiff at Northern Illinois (2007-2009). Kill was with the Huskies from 2008-2010 before accepting a job with the Golden Gophers after 2010 season. Fleck has nothing but respect for Kill.

“I respect Jerry Kill wholeheartedly,” said Fleck.

Here is the gist of what Fleck said to him before kickoff:

“Thank you for all you’ve done for my career,” said Fleck. “Welcome back.”

Minnesota ended up shutting out New Mexico State 38-0 on Thursday. Tanner Morgan accounted for 174 yards passing with 0 touchdowns through the air. However, the team found no problems scoring on the ground.

Morgan had 2 rushing touchdowns. Mohamed Ibrahim finished the game with 132 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Trey Potts also found the end zone, and had 89 yards rushing.

Minnesota’s next game will be against Western Illinois on Sept. 10 at noon ET on BTN.
