Nick Herbig, Wisconsin LB, hints at motivation from last season

Nick Herbig had a breakout year for Wisconsin last season. That is great and all, but he has been thinking about the plays he wasn’t able to make as motivation per Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Herbig finished the 2021 campaign with 40 solo tackles, a team-best 9 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. He isn’t resting on this achievements from last season, and knows he has to better at what he does.
“A lot of plays haunt me at night,” Herbig acknowledged. “Just making those plays is going to lead me being the player I want to be.”
The Wisconsin LB goes back to 1 play from the Michigan game last season as a huge source of motivation. The Wolverines handled the Badgers fairy well in 38-17 victory. Herbig missed a tackle in the game that would have lead to a safety or strip sack, and ended up giving a 10-yard reception.
“I felt if I could have made that play it could have changed the whole landscape of the game and our season,” said Herbig. “Which is crazy to me, because you don’t really know how one play really makes a difference. That is one play I wish I could have back.”
Herbig will be coming into 2022 with some extra motivation fueling him. Wisconsin’s season kicks off against Illinois State Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.
