With a 44-yard run, Germie Bernard scored Michigan State’s first TD of the 2022 season.

Watch as the Spartans’ QB, Payton Thorne, fires one to Bernard, who then takes off:

As Bernard was signed as the final recruit in 2022, head coach Mel Tucker stated the he believes the WR “can be a difference maker.” “He’s got a really good combination of size and speed and he’s strong with the ball. He’s a guy that I feel like is going to fit well with our mix of guys and he’s going to be able to help us big time.”

Make a difference he did, as his touchdown helped to put Michigan State on top.

The true freshman is making the most of his playing time, especially considering Jayden Reed and Tre Mosley return as a clear-cut top 2 receivers. Last year, Reed had a team-high 59 catches, while Mosley had 35.

Is it possible that fans will see Bernard more in the rotation? If Bernard continues to haul in catches like the one tonight, it’s almost assuredly so.
