A graduate transfer from Illinois, Barker is suiting up for the Spartans after withdrawing from 2022 NFL Draft. A week after the Fighting Illini finished a 5-7 season, Barker announced his declaration for the draft. Luckily for the Spartans, Barker then withdrew from the Draft and entered the portal as a graduate transfer.
Last season at Illinois, he had 18 receptions for 202 yards, 4 touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown. Barker was also a record-setter in his career at Illinois, having the most TD catches (11) of any tight end in Fighting Illini history.
Spartans tight ends coach Ted Gilmore jokes his greatest challenge is keeping Barker quiet. The TE is certainly making loud noises on the field for the Spartans.
