Illinois finds itself trailing 16-10 at Indiana at halftime on Friday night, and it has only itself to blame.
Some key drops from wide receivers have hurt the Illinois offense in key situations stalled drives and kept points off the board for the Illini.
These drops on back-to-back plays late in the second quarter certainly didn’t help Tommy DeVito and the Illinois offense:

Those 2 drops stalled the Illinois drive and forced a punt. Indiana kicked a field goal on the ensuing drive.
Of course, this game hasn’t been without some controversy, too. A play that appeared to be a touchdown grab for the Illini was ruled a drop:

It’s unclear what else Brian Hightower was supposed to do on that play to secure the catch, but upon review, the incomplete call stood.
We’ll see if the Illini receivers can do a little bit more receiving in the second half.
