Tom Allen was filled with joy as he belted out Indiana’s fight song after Friday night’s win over Illinois per Dustin Dopirak of Indy Star.

Indiana managed to win the game by 3 points, 23-20. The Hoosiers pulled off a come-from-behind win with a late rushing touchdown from Shaun Shivers with 23 seconds left in the game. Illinois had one last chance to send the game into overtime or take it back from Indiana, but the Hoosiers defense held on.

After the game, Allen was asked about what he told the offense on the eventual game-winning drive:

“I told them one thing, go score,” Allen said. “I didn’t tell them how to do it.”

Shivers, the Auburn transfer, gave the winning score as he punched it in the end zone. Indiana needed a win to get back on track after a difficult last season. In 2021, Indiana finished with a 2-10 record and an 0-9 B1G record.

With just 1 game into the 2022 season, Indiana already exceeded its B1G win total. It was a long time since Indiana was able to sing the fight song and Allen’s team took pride in the song after the Illinois win:

“We haven’t sung that stinking fight song in a long time,” Allen said. “I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Indiana’s 2nd game of the season will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10 against Idaho at 8 p.m. ET.
