Payton Thorne comments on his night following Week 1 win over Western Michigan

Payton Thorne played a major role in Michigan State’s win over Western Michigan and he discussed his performance per Matt Charboneau of The Detroit News.

Michigan State topped Western Michigan, 35-13, Friday night. Michigan State struggled at times during the game but everything worked out in the end. Michigan State’s offense went through some rough patches but the Spartans ultimately cruised to a victory.

Thorne finished the contest with a nice stat line of 233 yards passing, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Thorne was not happy that he threw an interception.

“It was pretty stupid, is what it was,” Thorne said.

He was “pissed off” he was forced to leave the field and revealed that he dealt with a rib injury and a leg cramp as a result of taking a hit. Thorne was able to close out the game for Michigan State and he had a solid 1st outing in the 2022 season.

Thorne completed 50% of his passes on Friday and will look to get better as the season rolls on. Thorne was coming off a 2021 season in which he passed for 27 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and 3,232 yards. He has the chance to exceed his touchdown total from 2021.

Michigan State will host Akron in the 2nd game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. ET.
