J.J. McCarthy entered the game at quarterback for Michigan with the defense pitching a shutout. The fans seemed to approve of his play.

McCarthy capitalized on his opportunity and 1st rush of the game, which was also his 3rd snap of the game per Anthony Broome of On3 Sports. Michigan decided to run the option with McCarthy, and he scored on a 20-yard run.

McCarthy will be the starting quarterback for the team’s game against Hawaii on Sept. 10, but is already making a case for himself to be the starting QB after that game. Michigan is leading Colorado State 37-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

McCarthy is 2-for-2 with 8 yards passing and has 50 yards rushing on just 3 carries. We’ll see how he does in a full game when Hawaii comes to Ann Arbor in Week 2.
