Michigan’s defense was lights out in Week 1 against Colorado State. Though the Wolverines lost the shutout late, Michigan still steamrolled to a 51-7 win.
In the game, the defense held the Rams to just 219 total yards of offense. Michigan also forced 2 turnovers while limiting Colorado State to 2.1 yards per carry.
After the game, defensive lineman Mike Morris talked about the outing for the Wolverines. According to Morris, 8 players rotated along the defensive front for the Wolverines and “everybody ate.”
Mike Morris “we had eight guys rotating and everybody ate”

Morris also said the Wolverines “have a lot of edges” that can play good football this year, something that might have been overlooked in the offseason.
Mike Morris – People didn't have faith in the coaches recruiting, people didn't have faith in us, and people didn't have faith in our ability to be developed… we have a lot of edges that can play winning football

It was definitely a strong first outing of the 2022 season. Michigan constantly had defenders breaking into the backfield, creating pressure and limiting the Rams throughout the afternoon.
One of the players joining Morris in the defensive onslaught was new transfer Eyabi Anoma. That unit will look to power the defense moving forward.
