Ryan Day was hopeful to see wide receivers Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming return next week when he provided an injury update on the 2 players.
Ohio State had planned on having Smith-Njigba and Fleming out on the field for most of the game, but unfortunately for the Buckeyes, that did not happen. Ohio State still managed to win by double digits without 2 key receivers.
Fleming was listed as a game-time decision for Ohio State, but he never made it on to the field for the game. For Smith-Njigba, he suffered an injury in the 1st half and was unable to stay in the game after halftime. Losing Smith-Njigba and Fleming were big blows to Ohio State’s receiving unit.
Ryan Day said he hopes Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming will be able to return next week.

Following the absence of the 2 receivers, Day addressed his optimism with their returns. He hopes Smith-Njigba and Fleming will be ready to return to action against Arkansas State, per Eleven Warriors’ Dan Hope.
The offense had to adjust without the 2 receivers and it was a nice showing from the receivers who played. One receiver who had a great outing was Xavier Johnson. In the 3rd quarter, Johnson hauled in the go-ahead touchdown that salted the game away. Johnson finished the game with 2 catches for 34 yards.
