When Chris Godwin announced that he was declaring for the NFL draft, it was a tough blow for Penn State.

The Lions were hopeful that one of the best deep threats in the country would return for his senior season. Instead, Godwin shot up draft boards with his impressive combine performance and ultimately was a third-round selection from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It’s early, but Godwin is already making his new team look like they got a steal.

Tweets like this have become the norm during Tampa Bay’s Organized Team Activities:

It isn’t just the beat reporters that the former Penn State star impressed.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter was asked last week about which guys stood out during OTAs. That question wasn’t limited to rookies, either.

“The most consistent guys since we’ve been out here have been Godwin and Adam [Humphries],” Koetter said last week via the team’s official website. “Those two guys have been making plays everyday. Real happy with what Chris is doing, but he could play in(side) or out(side), either one.”

Mainly used as an outside target with Penn State, Pro Football Focus rated Godwin as the B1G’s best deep threat in 2016. He had 504 receiving yards on targets of 20-plus yards as the Lions’ go-to wideout.

Godwin’s new quarterback likes what he sees.

“Man, Chris Godwin is amazing,” Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston said via the Tampa Bay Times. “He’s an amazing young talent.”

It remains to be seen how Godwin will fit in alongside the likes of Mike Evans and newly acquired deep target DeSean Jackson. The Bucs also have the aforementioned Humphries to play the slot, and they drafted former Alabama tight end O.J. Howard in the first round.

There are certainly plenty of mouths to feed in Tampa. But if Godwin keeps making plays like this, it won’t be long until he draws rave reviews on Sundays.
