Spencer Petras tops disappointing list of QB performances of the last decade in Week 1 win

Spencer Petras made a list that no quarterback would want to be on after his performance on Saturday.
Iowa ultimately won the game against South Dakota State but the offense did not help the team win the game. Petras struggled to get anything going on offense and the team relied on the defense and special teams to pull out a win.
Worst Total QBR in a W since '13 (started, min. 10 dropbacks, P5 only):
1.1: S. Petras, Iowa (2022 vs So Dak St)
2.2: H. Johnson, Northwestern (2021 vs Ind St)
2.7: R. Finley, NC St (2016 vs ND)
2.7: T. Rodemaker, FSU (2020 vs JSU)
2.8: S. Thompson, K-State (2017 vs UCLA)— Bill Connelly (@ESPN_BillC) September 5, 2022
According to ESPN’s Bill Connelly, Petras had the worst total QBR in a win since 2013. In the game, Petras failed to find the end zone. He completed 11 of 25 passes for 109 yards. Petras threw 1 interception without any touchdown passes.
Petras was expected to adjust to his role as Iowa’s starter and he had a hard time doing that. Petras won the starting job in training camp and after Week 1, his job could be in jeopardy. Head coach Kirk Ferentz supported Petras after the win and did not anticipate making any changes. While Ferentz showed Petras support, the growing calls for a change could force Ferentz to replace Petras.
In 2021, Petras had 1,880 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. He struggled in 2021 and if Saturday was any indication, Petras could be in for another difficult season.
If Petras ends up playing in Week 2, he will look to have a better performance against Iowa State in an important rivalry game.
