Michigan State is trying to start fresh in 2017. That approach includes some new alternate uniforms.

The Spartans unveiled a new all-white alternate that they’ll bust out on Sept. 9 against Western Michigan.

According to SpartanJerseys.com, it’ll mark the first time the Spartans wore white helmets since 1954.

The Spartans have dabbled with alternate uniforms in non-conference play multiple times in recent memory.

In the early part of the decade, MSU wore chrome helmets on multiple occasions. They also tried the all-white jerseys and pants look against Oregon and Michigan in 2014, but the helmet wasn’t all-white.

In 2015, they wore these alternates with bronze helmets against Oregon (via USA Today):

The Spartans wouldn’t mind if this year’s alternates yielded the same victorious result.
