ESPN analyst and former SEC head coach Dan Mullen released his College Football Playoff picks on Tuesday, which included two B1G teams.
According to Mullen’s predictions, Ohio State will face Alabama, while Michigan will take on Georgia in the first round. Mullen has Ohio State taking down perennial favorite Alabama, while the Wolverines are taken down by defending champions Georgia.

While Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State sit atop many analyst’s projections as CFP contenders, Michigan is a new addition after Week 1.
Mullen’s pick may seem somewhat surprising, considering that going into Week 1, questions still remained about who would be the permanent starting QB for Michigan. QB Cade McNamara led Michigan to the B1G Championship and the Playoff in 2021, but was competing with sophomore J.J McCarthy for the starting job.
McNamara ultimately got the start but completed just half his passes in a little more than two quarters. McCarthy entered the game in the third quarter and broke free for a 20-yard touchdown run shortly after.
The Wolverines went on to defeat the Colorado State Rams in a 51-7 blowout. Perhaps with the QB situation resolved, Mullen’s pick is on target. We’ll see how the rest of the Wolverines’ season sorts out.
