The Ohio State Buckeyes earned a big victory over Notre Dame on Saturday night. While the Buckeye offense sputtered, wide receiver Xavier Johnson had a big touchdown catch to give his team the lead in the 3rd quarter.

On Wednesday, Ohio State football released a video of Johnson explaining his performance and stepping up into a key role in Week 1.

Johnson’s 24-yard touchdown from CJ Stroud pushed the Buckeyes in front in Columbus. The senior graduate finished the night with 2 catches for 34 yards and that one score.

Johnson also contributed on special teams, registering 1 tackle. He has been mostly used on special teams during his tenure at Ohio State.

The Cincinnati native might be counted on more at wideout with Jaxon Smith-Njigba reportedly out 1-2 weeks with a hamstring injury. Smith-Njigba totaled just 2 receptions for 3 yards against Notre Dame. CJ Stroud’s go-to weapon had 95 receptions for 1,606 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2021.

Johnson will look to carry his performance into Saturday against Arkansas State. The Buckeyes are heavily favored, which could position Johnson for some big opportunities.
