Ryan Day updates Ohio State’s plans at safety for Lathan Ransom, Josh Proctor

Ryan Day and Ohio State are getting ready for a Week 2 matchup with Arkansas State. During his Thursday radio show appearance, Day updated one position of interest for the Buckeyes.
In the season opener, Josh Proctor started at safety in his first game back from an early season-opening injury in 2021. Lathan Ransom – after recovering from a broken leg in the Rose Bowl – quickly replaced Proctor and played much of the game.
Proctor ended Week 1 without a tackle while Ransom had 7 tackles (6 solo) against Notre Dame. In Week 2, Day said the start at bandit safety is going to Ransom but Proctor still factors into the playing time situation moving forward.

Day also touched on the personnel decisions, saying he has the final call when it comes to those moves.
On if he’s involved with who starts on defense, Ryan Day says “at the end of the day when it comes to personnel, I have the final decision.”

For Ohio State’s defense, having both Ransom and Proctor will provide much-needed depth at the backend of the defense. However, the news for Ransom is not particularly surprising.
Ransom was highlighted throughout much of fall camp for his work and development, even in his rehab back from the leg injury. Now, we’ll see how he looks in a Week 2 start.
