Matt Mitrione has had quite the professional career. It started with a brief stint in the NFL and has continued into the world of MMA.

On Saturday night, the former Purdue defensive tackle scored arguably the biggest win of his professional fighting career. Mitrione knocked out legend Fedor Emelianenko in the headline Bellator MMA card at Madison Square Garden.

And the 38-year-old former Boilermaker did it in a little over a minute.

The win improved Mitrione’s record to 12-5 for his career, a pretty impressive mark for a former NFL lineman. Emelianenko has worked up a 36-5 career record and is a five-time world champion.

Mitrione was a member of the Purdue defense from 1998 through 2001 and moved on to the NFL as an undrafted free agent. While with the Boilermakers, Mitrione tallied 165 tackles, including 50 stops for loss.

Though Mitrione’s career in the NFL was brief, the former college star has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in MMA.
