JJ McCarthy took his turn as Michigan’s starter in Week 2 of the season. He was eventually pulled in the 2nd quarter for Cade McNamara, providing an indication McCarthy’s night against Hawaii might be finished.

If McCarthy’s night is done, he made a dazzling case to be Michigan’s starting quarterback against the Rainbow Warriors. At the time he was pulled from the game, McCarthy was 9-for-10 passing for 206 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Additionally, McCarthy had a carry for 16 yards and did not commit a turnover.

After one drive in the game, McNamara came back out quickly for McCarthy. It was the 6th drive of the game for McCarthy leading the offense.

On the 6th drive, McCarthy found Cornelius Johnson for another touchdown. It bumped McCarthy’s numbers to 11-for-12 for 229 yards and 3 touchdowns.

In 6 drives with the offense, McCarthy produced 5 touchdown drives, 1 punt and did not turn the ball over. It remains to be seen what Jim Harbaugh was looking for in order to name McCarthy the starter, but the sophomore QB showed he can put up big numbers in a starting role with the offense.
