Greg McElroy: Nebraska ‘reeks of desperation’ following Scott Frost disaster

Greg McElroy had choice words for Nebraska’s disastrous tenure with former head coach Scott Frost.
Frost was fired on Sunday following the 45-42 loss to Georgia Southern in Week 2. Nebraska sank to 1-2 through 3 games and the most recent loss crushed the program’s morale.
It was time for a change and Nebraska acted swiftly. Frost, who was a quarterback at Nebraska, was hired by Nebraska in 2018. At Nebraska, Frost went 16-31 in more than 4 seasons as the head coach.
McElroy knew this decision was going to happen. He spoke about how Nebraska did not leave the situation unscathed, per ESPN College Football:
“This was inevitable,” said McElroy. “I kind of understand why you do it right now, but if you’re going to do it 3 games in why not just do it at the end of last season? It just reeks of desperation in a lot of ways, but at the same time, that’s kind of where Nebraska’s at. How many different ways can you lose heartbreakers?”
In his statement, McElroy criticized Nebraska for not making this decision at the end of the 2021 season. The Cornhuskers finished last season with a 3-9 record. McElroy gave his thoughts on Nebraska’s future:
“I think we’ve just realized this is a very difficult place to win right now, and I wish it wasn’t.”
Mickey Joseph was named the interim head coach and he will lead the Cornhuskers against the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday.
